The freedom! I started playing online doing ppc stuff in November 2005 from the advice of a good friend Shoemoney. All of 2006 was a huge learning experience from learning how to write html to installing a blog. Prior to my new found interest, I had no idea how to do anything online besides check my email. I’m still a “newbie” learning to code in php and trying to build quality membership sites that provide recurring/subscription based income. In my opinion that is where the real money is. Anybody can stumble into some quick money doing ppc, but you can’t build a business from it because of the nature of the internet. Everything changes at lightning speeds leaving the people doing archaic marketing in the dust. PPC is great for testing a market and then building a quality site around your data if the data shows a way to make some money.

Going back to freedom. I work from home (about 4-5 hrs a day now). When I started I was sitting at my computer 16-20 hrs a day. Seriously! I was free to do what I wanted but found myself in my own prison. My health started to deteriate because of the lack of movement and the horrible fast food I was chowing down. Not good. For me, I’ve found that I need to be busy doing other “active” things throughout the day, which helps me focus more intently when I’m on this computer working on my business. The internet has saved me from working for the man and making someone else a fortune. I am truly free.

Okay, we all know that you have to build PR and have sweet backlinks to rank in Google right? Well, here is a great, inexpensive way to get great content related links to your site. Our strategy will be to deep link into our sub pages ( I call them my money pages).

Example: Our site is review site of digital cameras. Of course we need links to our homepage (these links can be from non related sites like travel sites or pet sites), but we really need links to point to our money pages that are topic related and have the buy it now button or add to shopping cart button on them.

Here’s the dealio: We are trying to sell the Canon Powershot 600 digital camera. Search on Google for Canon Powershot 600 and go to the results that are ranked 200-300. Find 20+ of those sites that have the best PR or have the better content and contact that webmaster for a link exchange or possibly a link buy. I’ve gotten most my links for free and have only had to pay a maximum of $50 once.

It’s a win-win situation: You win because you are pointing topic related links to your deep money pages; therefore, raising those pages in the serps and the webmaster you linked to gets a link that is also topic related. Google loves relevancy and those links are definitely relevant to your topic/content. MSN and Yahoo will love you just because it’s a link:)

Here are the stats over the past few days:

blogrush graph

blogrush report

These stats are by no means good, but remember this blog was dead before I integrated BlogRush.  Analytics are everything and this data is a great measuring stick to see where I am and what I need to do to change things.
Notice, I haven’t posted to this blog since Friday(which has the highest peak), hence the low traffic. Conclusion, write a great title and post everyday for maximum benefit from BlogRush. Now I need to post quality info, monetize this blog better and get BlogRush referals…any ideas?

The #1 reason is this email that I and all members of BlogRush have received:

“We’re about 5 days into the launch of BlogRush and its growth has been nothing short of EXPLOSIVE. We’ve served over 40 MILLION blog headlines (i.e. blog post titles and links to the full post.) And each day that passes is serving more than the previous day - it’s truly growing virally.

By now you’ve probably seen write-ups and discussion about BlogRush all over blogs, discussion forums, and in email newsletters. Many have raved about the service while others have been very critical of it. We certainly welcome ALL criticism and feedback, good or bad. It’s the only way we will be able to improve the service to help our users generate more targeted traffic to their blogs.

Now I Know How Google Feels

Unfortunately, the bozos have come out of the woodwork and are trying to cheat the BlogRush system. We have quite a few users that are abusing the system - from running scripts to auto-load the widget, to other fraudulent methods to earn syndication credits for their account that they do not deserve.

These ‘cheaters’ are hurting the overall network and dramatically lowering the click-through rates for our good users. It’s obvious since their “impressions” are not even seen by humans and therefore are not sending any traffic to other users.

There have also been concerns about the QUALITY of blogs in the BlogRush network. Some poor quality blogs (I wouldn’t even call them blogs.. more like pages of junk and ads) have been added to BlogRush and it’s creating a problem.

What We’re Doing About These Issues

1. We’re moving to a MANUAL REVIEW process. No more automation. We will be reviewing ALL blogs submitted to BlogRush. If the quality of the blog is poor, they will not be allowed to participate. We’re going to start reviewing ALL the blogs that are currently in our network and will be disabling the accounts for poor quality blogs.

2. We’re continuing to add security measures to our system and we will be mass-removing any and all cheaters that we discover. We will not rest until the cheaters are WIPED OUT and kept from abusing our network. The manual review process will help eliminate most of them as legitimate bloggers that have put in the time to create a decent blog aren’t the types that are going to be abusing the system.

All of these changes will only benefit our users - it wil increase their click-through rates and drive more traffic to their blogs. It will also make sure that the blogs their widget links to are only quality blogs.

For everyone that has signed up for an account and has been testing BlogRush on their blog, thank you for your patience. Please know that we are working as quickly as possible to improve the service.”

Okay, can you say service after the sale? These guys and gals know what they are doing. I can say that frankly because of one man… John Reese. Seriously, the guy knows how to market his product and take care of his customers because he runs his business from a customer’s point of view. Remember the Golden Rule? “Do unto others as you would have done to you.” Enough said. Hey John, keep up the outstanding work.

Seriously, could I name drop a few more times! I’ve noticed that in the small amount of posts here to this blog, I’ve mentioned Shoemoney in all but one post. Here is the one post on his blog that he mentions me. I believe I was 2 months into marketing online at the time. I broke my internet virginity doing ppc with google adwords selling customized Nike shoewear. It was an incredible thrill ride of watching my click thru rate climb higher (as well as my total ad spend) and the money came pouring in.., all $300 dollars of it :) Ahhh, the good ole days. What am I doing now you ask? Learning the blackhat white ninja arts what else? Seriously, I’ve gotten away from ppc (need to get back in) and have trained for many months learning stealthy SEO tactics. I’m no Shoemoney or even a JohnChowDotCom, but maybe someday they’ll be blogging about me. It could happen…..
Here is my marketing tip for today: Become effective by being selective.
